The T-shirt unveiling was the latest show in support of Qatar’s 2022 World Cup bid ahead of Fifa’s announcement of the host nations for 2018 and 2022 on December 2.

The South African record for the shirt was set on September 15 this year with the T-shirt measuring 64 meters in length and 43 meters wide.

Dr Mohammad Yousuf Al Mulla, General Manager and Board Member of QAPCO, said it was exciting that the company had set a world record for the largest T-shirt. “Our motive behind such an initiative is only to voice our unlimited support in the energy and industry sector for Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup here,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for the rest of the world to get a better understanding, not just of Qatar, but the whole region, its people and its culture,” he added.

The T-shirt was produced in China and transported to Aspire Zone for the record setting event.

“It will be housed at the Museum of Islamic Art in the future,” Al Mulla was quoted by the Gulf Times as saying.
